As you all well know I enjoy my fooball. I love going to matches and I love following the seasons. I have decided to make it clear which teams I support and follow and explain why, as I’m often questioned about my allegiance. To make it clear there are no teams I hate. Because I love this club I must hate that one. No, I just love my teams a bit more
.
Anyway let’s get back to the story. Let’s start with Olympique Marseille. I followed the squad since 1993 when they won the European Cup. That support was strenghtened when I stayed in Marseille in 1996 for a period of 8 months, a fantastic time of my life. I still keep an eye on them even though there hasn’t been great results in a long time.
Games seen live: The UEFA Cup final in Gothenburg 2004 – O.M. vs Valencia 1 – 3.
Then we come to Chelsea FC. I became a Chelsea fan the year Ruud Gullit made a move to the London based club. After 1998 Gullit was gone and I stayed on board to follow the likes of Zola, Di Matteo, Poyet etc. Because of the Bosman ruling in 1995 it became possible for clubs in the EEC to play as many EEC players in the National leagues they wanted. Chelsea was one of the first clubs to use the ruling to internationalize the squad and I liked it. They won the FA cup in 1997 and had a brilliant year in 1998 winning the League cup, European Cup Winners Cup and the Super Cup against another of my teams Real Madrid. Then came Abramovich, no complaints from me, and thats another story.
Games seen live: Champions league 1/8 in Barcelona 2005 – FC Barcelona vs Chelsea FC 2 – 1
Michael Laudrup went from Barcelona to Real Madrid. And I followed with interest Laudrups time there and even though his time was short there I stayed along keeping an eye on them becoming a bigger fan with years gone. My heart grew for the club especially under the coaching days of Del Bosque and the time after his reign has been frustrating. I mean a serious drought of 3 years lets see what Capello can do!
Games seen live: CL group stage at the Bernabeu 2003 – Real Madrid vs Dortmund 2 – 1 and CL 1/8 at the Bernabeu 2005 – Real Madrid – Juventus 1 – 0
And then there is FC København. I support them I honestly do. But they frustrate the crap out of me. I will not get it to that, they made the group stages for the first time and that is an achievement in it self. Well I’m born and raised in Cph therefore it’s natural for me to have them as my favourite team in DK.
Loads of games seen live and I think I jinx them because mostly they lose when I go!!!
Well there you go, my European roster. And all I can say is have a great season! Champions league rocks!
